Embracing Creative Chaos
Today, on the 17th of February, a new start marks the lunar calendar — the New Year, the Year of the Horse. As a Horse sign myself, I take it as a quiet blessing, an invitation to embody what this year carries. We are entering a Fire Horse year, a season that hums with bold forward motion: intensity, urgency, passion. I take it as a sign to embrace the creative chaos that has been brewing in me for quite some time.
Taste is a luxury. Addison Rae Easterling once said this in an interview, and the thought has lingered with me ever since. When you begin, you don’t always have the freedom to create as you wish. Standards appear, formulas take shape — paths meant to guide you toward whatever summit you’re told to reach. I find myself drawn to the opposite direction, even while remaining small within this vast creative world. I have the luxury of taste precisely because I am not reaching too far, and when freedom offers that luxury, it feels almost careless not to honor it.
As a brand, I have leaned more toward sales since summer, if I’m honest — a way to grant myself legitimacy, to quiet the voice that calls me an imposter, a self-taught, makeshift creative. But I am not here simply to sell. I am here to offer space — space for people to step closer to their truest selves, whichever facet of themselves wishes to emerge. That is the essence of this brand, its center of gravity. Nothing more, nothing less.
And so this year, I welcome the poetic creative chaos — reaching toward something new while returning, gently, to where I began.
