“I’ll deal with the heartache later on”
“Maybe I don’t care about being hurt. I think it might be worth it. I’ll deal with the heartache later on & hopefully with grace.”
- One of my journal entries
Overthinking might be one of the biggest epidemics of our time. We try to think ahead to minimize the repercussions of life and the choices we make along the way. But we live for such a finite amount of time, and we should remember that we’re here to experience. There’s a quote that circulates around the internet: “Everything is a win if the goal is to experience.” I genuinely believe in this philosophy.
So maybe, yes, I sometimes walk into situations knowing there’s a chance I could get hurt. The question shouldn’t be “Do I want to get hurt or not?” but rather, “Is this experience worth the possibility of getting hurt?” Of course, some situations aren’t worth that risk. Don’t be reckless. However, I hope you understand what I mean. I believe it’s okay to choose to value meaningful experiences over fear-based avoidance, while still recognizing healthy limits. It’s a kind of acceptance — not actively seeking pain, but willing to face it if it comes as a consequence of pursuing something meaningful.
