The Ambient Sounds of the Place I Call Home
There must be a name for this phenomenon—when suddenly, your city feels brand new. When summer hits, the streets I walk daily are seen through a different lens. Everything seems sweeter, more poetic. The wind brushes past me with such softness. I feel held by the city. And for a brief moment, there’s the bliss of being somewhere unfamiliar.
It usually happens on slow nights, when my only soundtrack is the sound of Montréal’s streets. I guess, now that I’m writing this, I realize I feel more connected to where I am when my walks aren’t drowned out by loud music in my ears—music that keeps me from hearing the ambient sounds of the place I call home.
